October Half Term Events in Southwold

We’re gearing up for an action packed few weeks in Southwold and the surrounding area with plenty of spook-tacular October half term family fun as well as film showcases, food and drink festivals and fireworks.

We’ve listed below our favourite events taking place over the coming weeks which we hope you will take part in during your visit to Southwold. As always, we recommend you check with the event host the finer details before the event, and many will require a ticket purchase in advance.

Scare Maze After Dark at The Old Hall Southwold, Reydon – 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, 31 October 2022

A thrilling virtual horror after-dark event taking place at The Old Hall this October. Walk through 8 acres of maze in the dark whilst encountering shadowy characters along the way. You’ll need to make it to the end but watch out for zombies in the fields, a game of red light green light and beware of ‘Southwold’s Slaughterhouse’ – you won’t want to stay too long! Tickets cost £21 per person and must be booked in advance.

Scaretacular Daytime Family Fun at The Old Hall Southwold, Reydon – 22 – 30 October 2022

A family-friendly Halloween event at The Old Hall over the October half term. This event is a great choice for families as there is plenty for little ones and big kids alike. Take part in pumpkin carving, a trick or treat mini maze, Ghoulish go-karts, pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch (extra charge applies) face painting (extra charge applies) and a scarecrow scrap yard shoot out. Children will also have use of the play park facilities within the ticket price. Tickets must be booked in advance.

My Southwold Our Happy Place Mini Festival, Southwold – Saturday 22 October 2022

Head to Southwold on Saturday 22nd October for this fantastic mini festival taking place at St Edmunds Church and Bartholomew Green. Suitable for all ages there’s a range of workshops, music events within the Church, an activity corner plus there will be many pop-up stalls by local businesses. This event starts from 10am.

Bungay Food and Drink Festival, Bungay – Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 October 2022

A brand new food and drink festival is coming to the market town of Bungay close to the Suffolk and Norfolk border. Prior to the festival many of Bungay’s local food and drink businesses have been offering tasting tours and raising awareness of the challenges faced by the industry such as climate change and biodiversity loss. A talk about the challenges will be taking place on Saturday by some of the town’s leading producers. On the Sunday many local producers from the county will be present at the food market on Earsham Street. Expect to see everything from savoury to sweet produce, plus live music and a hospitality tent will be available.

Dunwich Heath History Talks, Dunwich – Saturday 22 October 2022

The seaside village of Dunwich has a truly fascinating history and if you’d like to learn all about the past in this popular village why not book a ticket to this National Trust talk? This event is from 2pm – 3.30pm, with tickets costing £4 per person.

Creepy Crafts & Ghost Stories, Dunwich – 22, 23, 26, 29, 30 October 2022

A fantastic range of craft events suitable for children including paper plate ghosts, pinecone bats and scary lamps all available in the Heath Barn. For those who would prefer to get outdoors collect a ghost story discovery trail and discover some of the local ghostly goings on! No pre-booking required.

Southwold Arts Centre Science Week – 24 – 29 October 2022

Southwold Arts Centre brings you a week of science fun! From fossils to volcanoes to planets, these events are the perfect way to entertain your child this October half term. Events cost just £2 for all day and take place at the Arts Centre along Cumberland Road. Events suitable for children aged 7 to 15 years old. Halloween Pumpkin Trail at Somerleyton Hall – 23, 24, 25, 27, 30 October 2022

The grounds at Somerleyton Hall are open for the return of their annual pumpkin trail. Fancy dress is welcomed but optional. The pumpkin trail takes place between 11am and 5.30pm, with last entry at 4.30pm. Tickets are bookable online.

Holiday Club at Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve – Wednesday 26 October 2022

Join the team at Carlton Marshes during October half term for a range of outdoor activities, games and crafts. Ensure you are dressed for the outdoors! The event is suitable for unaccompanied 6 – 11 year olds. A vegetarian lunch is included within ticket price which is £25 per child.

Halloween Party at The Canteen, Southwold – Friday 28 October 2022

Join Southwold’s newest restaurant ‘The Canteen’ at the Old Hospital in half term for a Halloween party with games, crafts and family fun. Suitable for children of all ages. Fancy dress welcome! Event starts at 4pm and finishes at 6.30pm and tickets can be purchased online.

Halloween Event at East Anglia Transport Museum – Saturday 29 October 2022

Visit the East Anglia Transport Museum for some spooky sights! A free witch hunt, evening tram and train rides plus prizes for children and extra treats for those in fancy dress. No need to pre-book, just turn up and pay on the day!

Aldeby Spooktacular, Aldeby nr Beccles – Saturday 29 October 2022

Enjoy live music, over 200 fireworks, food village, a range of stalls and entertainment at the Aldeby Spooktacular, located close to the market town of Beccles. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Box of Delights Film Showings at East Point Pavilion, Lowestoft – Sunday 30 October 2022

Part of the Lowestoft Film Festival, this event showcases a range of short children’s films on a big screen in a seaside setting. This event is free of charge and takes place from 1pm – 2pm and 3pm – 4pm. No ticket required, just turn up!

Southwold Shakespeare Season at Southwold Arts Centre – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 November 2022

Southwold Arts Centre is hosting a mini festival of film of Royal Shakespeare Company productions this November. Enjoy Hamlet, King Lear, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest and Othello. Tickets must be purchased in advance and cost £10 per adult and under 16s are £5. Refreshments are included in the ticket price.

Heveningham Hall Fireworks – Saturday 5 November 2022

Suffolk’s most popular firework display returns to Heveningham Hall this Bonfire night. With live music from Scouting for Girls, a funfair, street food and bar, this event is sure to cater to all ages. Tickets are £10 per adult (age 15+) and children (2 – 14 years) just £5. Under 2s go free.
