You’d be excused for not noticing this charmingly understated 1920s bungalow whilst walking by, but beyond its modest and unassuming exterior is an utterly fabulous coastal retreat. Set just a few yards from the sand dunes and the town’s iconic Gun Hill, this charming holiday home has been lovingly renovated and furnished to create the perfect haven to escape the daily routine and enjoy the serene side of Southwold.

There’s a contemporary coastal feel throughout this holiday home with crisp white walls, rich blues and pops of colour throughout. The living areas are filled with light and enjoy views over the garden and beyond to the marshes. The bedrooms (one double and one twin) offer comfort and luxury with 100% cotton bedding, blackout curtains and ample storage. The kitchen is superbly equipped with all the gadgets you could need during your stay including dishwasher, washer drier and Nespresso machine.

Outside the list of benefits continues. The mature garden is fully enclosed so there’s no need to worry whilst the youngest members of the holiday party run around to their heart’s content. The BBQ and outdoor dining table and chairs offer a more relaxed way to enjoy this tranquil setting, perhaps enjoying a morning coffee or watching the sun go down. There is also plenty of off-street parking at Number 5, a rare jewel in Southwold.

Number 5 would suit a family of four looking for a seaside escape in Southwold or a couple or small group of adults in search of a quiet retreat to enjoy the beauty of the Suffolk Coast.

  • Perfect property in what must be the perfect location for both the beach as well as observing wildlife in the marshes behind. Got to see over to the harbour and water tower which afforded views of amazing sunsets. Heard so many different birds on a daily basis as well. Parking was such a bonus for us as our adult son who comes with us - took the stress out of where to park daily especially if we had any trips out. Our little dog thought the garden was amazing and spent the 2 weeks trying to find where the interesting rabbit smells were coming from. He never managed to actually see one ! Thankfully as well, the property has some original features and the style has been complimented by the current furniture/ decor. Beautiful cushions throughout as well as lovely fleeces which came in useful on occasion. We have already booked Number 5 again for a week next August. Our favourite property in Southwold so far and this has been our 10th stay!!

  • This was our first visit to Number 5; the fact that we have already re-booked for next year shows how pleased we are with the property. Having a parking space is so welcome!

  • Property is in such a peaceful position in Southwold. Having stayed in properties at least once a year over the past 25 years, this is a bonus as the town can get horrendously busy. The views of the changing skies at the back are beautiful and Denes beach a few yards away at the front make this a great holiday home. Dog friendly properties aren't always in the best of shape but this was exceptional. Durrants kept us informed right through the booking process and answered any questions we had immediately. Smooth process throughout even when we were able to tack on an extra day.

  • The cottage was lovely and appreciate the soft furnishings, decor and abundance of Neom! It was absolutely ideal for for us. It's nice that a few luxuries are left out and cleaning products are provided. We'd love to return one day!

  • I’m not sure I want to write a review because everyone will want to stay and we won’t get back there ! Joking aside , this is a little gem in our favourite part of Suffolk , its clean , comfy, cosy and a perfect spot to be able to leave the car on the drive and walk around this gorgeous town . We will be back !
